About Me
The person behind ModernWP Themes
I’m Rupesh Hingu — a WordPress developer based in Mumbai, India. I build custom websites, WooCommerce stores, and plugins that are fast, accessible, and built to rank.
I’m a developer who cares about how websites are built, not just how they look.
My relationship with WordPress goes back to 2014 — when I built my first free theme and launched modernwpthemes.com as a WordPress blog. Over the next decade, I ran multiple WordPress sites, survived several major Google algorithm updates firsthand, and learned the hard way exactly what separates websites that last from ones that quietly die in the rankings.
For the past 5+ years I’ve worked professionally as a WordPress developer — building and maintaining real WordPress and WooCommerce sites daily. In June 2026, I published my first open-source plugin, CartTaxify for WooCommerce, on the official WordPress repository. That same month, I relaunched ModernWP Themes to take on freelance projects directly — bringing everything I’ve learned to independent client work.
My Approach
What I believe about building for the web
Every decision I make during a project is guided by these principles. They’re not marketing — they’re how I actually work.
Performance is not optional
A beautiful website that takes 6 seconds to load on mobile is a liability, not an asset. I treat Core Web Vitals — LCP, INP, CLS — as hard requirements, not nice-to-haves. Every site I ship is tested on real mobile devices, not just desktop Chrome.
SEO starts at the code level
Most agencies bolt SEO on as an afterthought. I build it into the architecture — semantic HTML, proper heading hierarchy, schema markup, crawl-efficient sitemaps, and internal linking structures that Google can actually understand.
Less code = fewer problems
I don’t install 30 plugins to build a business website. Every line of code has a purpose. Fewer dependencies mean fewer security vulnerabilities, faster updates, and a site that doesn’t break when WordPress releases a new version.
Honesty over hype
I won’t promise you page 1 rankings in 30 days or a viral website. What I will promise is clean code, realistic timelines, transparent pricing, and a website that genuinely helps your business grow over time.

My Journey
My Journey — How I Got Here
2014 — The Beginning
Discovered WordPress and built my first free theme. Launched modernwpthemes.com as a blog to share what I was learning about WordPress, themes, and web development.
2016–2022 — The Learning Years
Launched a second tech blog and ran both sites through multiple major Google algorithm updates. Watched rankings rise and fall firsthand — and learned more about technical SEO, site speed, and content strategy through that experience than any course could have taught me.
2020–Present — Professional Development
For the past 5+ years I’ve worked professionally as a WordPress developer — building and maintaining WordPress and WooCommerce websites in a real production environment. This is where I developed deep expertise in custom themes, WooCommerce customisation, plugin architecture, and performance optimisation.
June 2026 — Going Independent
Published CartTaxify for WooCommerce on the official WordPress.org repository — my first open-source plugin, built to solve a real WooCommerce tax problem. That same month I relaunched ModernWP Themes to offer my expertise directly to clients as a freelance WordPress developer. I’m now selectively taking on new projects.

For clients outside Mumbai — across India or internationally in the US, UK, or Australia — I work seamlessly over video calls and async communication. Timezone differences have never been a barrier.
